What to expect on your first visit
Although you do not have to see your doctor before coming to see us, some people do so you may have a referral letter from your GP or consultant.
Your first visit will usually take 45 to 60 minutes to give us plenty of time to listen to you and undertake a thorough examination. You will have to remove some garments so that we can look and feel the affected areas. We want you to tell us how you feel, and show us where it hurts. We will make you move so we can see the effect it has.
We always continue the assessment into a treatment session, so we can start making you feel better straightaway, and start an appropriate exercise program.
After the assessment, physiotherapy treatment can involve:
- Manual therapy, mobilisations or manipulations
- Exercises
- Posture correction
- Taping or strapping
- Acupuncture or Intramuscular Stimulation (dry needling)
- Biomechanical correction with foot splints or orthotics
- Electrotherapy – ultrasound, interferential, laser
- Heat or ice
